ALUCOBOND® | Forms & Elements

MATRIX IN SPACE Project: House at Lake Constance | Germany Architects: Biehler Weith Associated, Constance | Germany Construction: Cassette SZ20 Year of Construction: 2014 Product: ALUCOBOND® plus Anodized Look C32 At a new house at Lake Constance, Archi-tects Biehler and Weith display the incre-dible impact a cleverly considered façade can have on a building. They have omitted everything which cha-racterises a traditional house: apparent window frames, visible floor levels, sym-metrical roof surfaces and orthogonal floor plans. The outcome is a sculptural building without comparable scale. The architects, however, envelop the concrete Forms & Elements 01/2015 structure with rear-ventilated, large-format ALUCOBOND® panels, whose dark joints create a grid pattern over the whole buil-ding volume. A matrix is generated for the space, creating order and spatially integra-ting the building with its angles and ope-nings, the gradient of the slants and the resulting perspectives. The large-format and sheen of the coloured tray panels en-sure that the grid format does not make the house look conformist or constrained. 14 Special lacquering also ensures a velvet sheen and smooth daylight reflections on folded and formed ALUCOBOND® tray panels.
